Keynote: New Challenges in Protecting Personal Information
Elizabeth Denham
Canada's Assistant Privacy Commissioner discusses significant challenges in implementing new technology, privacy breaches and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada's analysis of the common sources of privacy “spills and accidents”. She will provide her perspective on the proposed model of breach notification under PIPEDA. The presentation will include new compliance tools and approaches for business.
Government Information Destruction: How and When They Apply
Ken Clupp
We all rightfully assume that the government has extensive security requirements related to the proper destruction of information concerning national security. However, there are many misunderstandings about specific governmental regulations for personal information, medical records and financial records. In addition, the impact of government regulation on how information is destroyed may sometimes vary for private and public organizations.
Computer Disposal Options: A Technology and Security Update
Joseph Bozic
In a recent survey commissioned by Dell, information security was the biggest concern of executives when faced with retiring obsolete electronic equipment. The problem is that the area of computer disposal and information protection is fraught with misinformation and confusion, which sometimes comes from service providers with their own interests at heart. This session is designed to give you the background to make an informed, intelligent computer disposal decision that will keep your organization out of court and out of the newspapers.
The Inside Job: Security Directors Discuss Information Destruction and Employee Compliance
Ric Handren and Derek Knights
Employees are a critical element in the information destruction equation. Without employee training, discretion and accountability, a well crafted destruction policy is doomed to failure. In this session, security professionals serving two of Canada's most respected companies will discuss strategies for achieving employee compliance to your organization's information destruction program.
How to Use the NAID Information Destruction Policy Compliance Toolkit
Robert Johnson
In May of this year, NAID released its Information Destruction Policy Compliance Toolkit (Toolkit), a first of its kind, comprehensive workbook designed to assist organizations in developing written policies and procedures to deal with this important responsibility in a manner consistent with privacy requirements among all developed nations. In the session, one of the primary authors of the Toolkit will orient attendees on the proper use of the Toolkit, including the many sample forms and resources it contains.
